UI Legal Experts Call the Crowd in Maumere No Criminal Incidents

JAKARTA - Criminal law expert from the University of Indonesia (UI) Indriyanto Seno Adji said that the crowd in Maumere that occurred when President Joko Widodo passed did not have an elementary basis for a criminal incident.

The crowd happened unintentionally. The people came spontaneously, without any invitation.

Because of that, according to Indriyanto, it is natural that the police would reject public reports of the crowd events in Maumere.

Meanwhile, the crowd that occurred when the hospital was judged by the UI Criminal Law Specialists did have an element of intention to violate the law on its normal prohibition.

"Indeed, there is an intention to violate the law against the normal prohibition," said Indriyanto in his statement, Monday (1/3).

So that the request to release the hospital according to Indriyanto is clearly groundless.

"Because the detention of the Hospital (Rizieq Shihab) actually has an elementary basis, a strong intention to violate the prohibition in the regulation, namely a criminal act," explained this UI Criminal Law Expert.

On the other hand, said Indriyanto, the crowd of residents welcoming President Joko Widodo could not be an excuse to free Rizieq Syihab from the legal process.

The reason is, the former deputy chairman of the KPK Leadership Candidate Chancellor has the view that the crowd in Maumere and in Petamburan when Rizieq married off his son was a different matter.

Indriyanto emphasized that there was no invitation when the crowd in Maumere called President Jokowi
