Armed with information from the community, the East Java Regional Police Direskrimum Sub-directorate arrested AP (35 years old), a resident of Sidoarjo who acts as a vehicle searcher. SH (36 years), a resident of Jombang, acts as a vehicle searcher. DI (40 years old), a resident of Surabaya who acts as a collector. M (45 years), a Surabaya resident who acts as a collector, and PA (43 years), a Surabaya resident who acts as a producer of export documents.
"This is the disclosure of cases of sale of four-wheeled and two-wheeled vehicles (stolen) abroad," said Head of Public Relations of the East Java Regional Police, Kombes Pol Gatot Repli Handoko in front of the media crew.
Deputy Director of the East Java Regional Police General Criminal Investigation, AKBP Nasrun Pasaribu said that the case was revealed in January 2021. The suspects have been in action since 2017. Hundreds of vehicles the suspect sold to Timor Leste were the result of criminal acts, such as stolen goods or loans that were deliberately not paid, then embezzled by being sold to other parties.
Before being exported, the two-wheeled and four-wheeled vehicles obtained by the suspect were stored in a warehouse at Jalan Greges Number 61, Surabaya City.
Subsequently, this gang of collectors of fake motorized vehicles sent to Timor Leste by sea. "Every month there are always (motorbikes) sent (the suspect) to Timor Leste," said AKBP Nasrun Pasaribu, Deputy Chief of Criminal Investigation of Polda East Java.
Furthermore, Deputy Director of Criminal Investigation explained that the suspect sent the bulging vehicles twice a month. The number is on demand, can be ten to fifteen units.
For motorbikes, the average price is IDR 7 million per unit. The vehicle was then received by the suspect's network in Timor Leste.
"One of the suspects had worked in Timor Leste so he has a network there," Nasrun continued during a press conference.
Arriving in Timor Leste, the fake vehicle was replaced with a document that was suspected of being fake, adjusting the regulations in the country of Timor Leste.
"In Timor Leste there are already collectors or funders. Vehicles from Indonesia that only have an STNK, are all changed there and those that are not made (vehicle documents) are made," he said.
Apart from arresting the five suspects, the police also confiscated hundreds of motorbikes totaling 25 containers and several four-wheeled vehicles as evidence. The suspects charged under Article 481 KUHPidana Subsider Article 480 KUHP Juncto 55 KUHP. The maximum sentence is seven years in prison.
