Now in Surabaya, several people who are non-formal sector workers such as street vendors (PKL), tire repairmen, and pedicab drivers choose to put up the red and white flag as a symbol of the war against the pandemic.
The Deputy Chief of the Surabaya Police, AKBP Hartoyo, appreciated the community's persistence in collaborating with the government to overcome the pandemic.
Hartoyo ensured that the community could still work to meet the needs of their families as long as they adhered to health protocols and obeyed government regulations during the pandemic.
"The situation is indeed not easy. But with the wisdom of the government and the community, this difficult time will pass. The red and white flag can be a symbol of the war against Covid 19. Synergy between the government and the community," said Deputy Chief of the Surabaya City Police.
The red and white spirit, according to Hartoyo, is a symbol of the spirit of the Suroboyo people in particular to survive in the midst of this pandemic.
"That spirit must be inflamed together. So people can still survive by working while maintaining their health. With prokes, obeying government regulations through policies both central and regional, God willing, this pandemic will be handled properly," he said.
