Regarding the good name of the family, the police are reluctant to reveal Maaher's illness

Jakarta - The Indonesian National Police (Polri) were reluctant to reveal the illness suffered by Soni Eranata or Ustaz Maaher At-Thuwailibi before dying at the Bareskrim Polri detention center.

Head of the Public Relations Division of the National Police, Inspector General Argo Yuwono, revealed that Maaher was sick. As for his considerations, the Police did not want to tarnish the good name of the Maaher family because his illness was very sensitive.

"This is because of illness. I cannot tell you what the pain is due to sensitive pain," said Argo in a press conference, Tuesday (9/2/2021).

"This could be related to the good name of the deceased's family. So we cannot convey clearly and clearly what the pain is because the disease is sensitive, this is the problem," emphasized Argo.

Maheer had received treatment at the Police Hospital, Kramat Jati. The Maaher case itself has entered stage 2 and has been submitted to the prosecutor's office. Before stage 2 (he submitted the evidence and suspects to the prosecutor), Maaher complained of pain.

Then remand center officers including a team of doctors took him to the Kramat Jati Police Hospital.

"After being treated and declared cured, the person concerned was brought back to the Bareskrim Detention Center," said Argo.

According to Argo, after stage 2 the evidence was completed and the suspect was handed over to the prosecutor. Maaher complained of pain again.

Again, prison officials and a team of doctors suggested that they be taken to the National Police Hospital, but the person concerned did not want to die until he finally died.

Maaher was named a suspect for allegedly insulting Habib Lutfi. He was charged with Article 45 paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 28 paragraph (2) of Law Number 19 of 2016 concerning Amendments to Law Number 11 of 2008 concerning Electronic Information and Transactions (ITE). With the threat of a maximum sentence of six years in prison.

Maaher was arrested to follow up on the police report number LP / B / 0677 / XI / 2020 / Bareskrim dated November 27, 2020. He was arrested in connection with uploading hate speech on the Twitter social media account @ustadzmaaher_.
